Aims and scope

Machine Vision and Applications publishes high-quality technical contributions in machine vision research and development. Specifically, the editors encourage submissions in all applications and engineering aspects of image-related computing. In particular, original contributions dealing with scientific, commercial, industrial, and biomedical applications of machine vision, are all within the scope of the journal.

Particular emphasis is placed on engineering and technology aspects of image processing and computer vision.

The following aspects of machine vision applications are of interest: algorithms, architectures, AI techniques, on-device and embedded sensing, multimodal and multisensor machine vision, real-time techniques, robotics, virtual/augmented reality and visualization. Papers must include a significant experimental validation component.

Special Issue on Vision-Based Industrial Inspection

We are pleased to announce a special issue in conjunction with the VISION workshop hosted at ICCV 2025 in Honolulu, Hawaii. This special issue will be published in the journal Machine Vision and Applications.

We invite authors to submit papers that include an extension of 30-40% new material beyond what was presented at the workshop proceedings. However, we also welcome original submissions that have not been part of the workshop. This ensures a diverse and comprehensive collection of cutting-edge research in the field of machine vision for industrial inspection. All submissions will be rigorously reviewed according to journal standards to ensure high-quality contributions to the field.

The scope of this special issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

- Advanced algorithms in machine vision
- Innovative applications of industrial vision systems
- Real-time processing and analysis
- Defect detection and identification in manufacturing processes
- Vision-based industrial automation

Special Issue on Advances in Visual Computing (ISVC 2025)

Over the last two decades, considerable progress has been achieved in the broader area of visual computing, mainly as a result of the exponential growth of processor speed and memory capacity as well as the rapid explosion of multi-media and the extensive use of video and image-based techniques in many application domains. As a result, visual computing has grown from a research area to a widely accepted technology, capable of providing dramatic increase in productivity and improving living standard. Real time access and sharing of digital information including text and sound but also powerful realistic or simulated visuals are now within our capacity, enabling truly interactive multi-participant, multi-modal and multi-media communication.

This special issue will primarily include selected papers from the 20th International Symposium on Visual Computing (ISVC’25) which took place in Las Vegas, NV, November 17-19, 2025. Accepted papers will consist of a 30-40% extension of material and will have gone through the rigorous peer review process outlined in the journal submission guidelines.

To cast a wider net, we will also entertain general submissions of high quality related to the area of visual computing. ISVC provides a common forum for researchers, scientists, engineers and practitioners throughout the world to present their latest research findings, ideas, developments and applications in the broader area of visual computing which includes four main areas: computer vision, computer graphics, visualization, and virtual reality.
