Special Issues
Special Issue on Quantum Frontiers: Nano- and Meta- materials for Emerging Quantum TechnologiesSubmission Date: 2026-05-01The year 2025 marks the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, celebrating a field that is rapidly transitioning from fundamental research to real-world innovation. In recent years, a joint endeavour of experts from quantum physics, nanophotonics, nanoelectronics, metamaterials, and materials science has led to remarkable demonstrations in quantum technology. This progress is primarily fuelled by breakthroughs in metamaterials, micro- and nanostructured platforms, and engineered quantum systems, which offer powerful new capabilities for sensing, controlling, and processing quantum information. This Special Issue invites cutting-edge contributions at the intersection of nano- and meta- structures, and quantum science, highlighting recent achievements that push the boundaries of what is experimentally and technologically possible. Topics include, but are not limited to, quantum photonic devices, nanostructured quantum light sources, quantum metasurfaces, hybrid quantum systems, novel platforms for quantum sensing, and material-enabled approaches to quantum communication, information processing and computation. We aim to showcase the growing synergy between nanoscale engineering, nanophotonics and quantum innovation, and to celebrate the transformative role of nanomaterials in shaping the next generation of quantum technologies.
