Knowledge-Based Systems focuses on systems that use knowledge-based techniques to support human decision-making, learning and action. Such systems are capable of cooperating with human users and so the quality of support given and the manner of its presentation are important issues. The emphasis of the journal is on the practical significance of such systems in modern computer development and usage.

As well as being concerned with the implementation of knowledge-based systems, the journal covers the design process, the matching of requirements and needs to delivered systems and the organisational implications of introducing such technology into the workplace and public life, expert systems, application of knowledge-based methods, integration with conventional technologies, software tools for KBS construction, decision-support mechanisms, user interactions, organisational issues, knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, languages and programming environments, knowledge-based implementation techniques and system architectures. Also included are publication reviews.

Special Issue on intelligent decision-making and consensus under uncertainty in inconsistent and dynamic environments

Societal and technological trends make the decision environments more and more complex. The emergence of the intelligent decision making technology provides a good decision support to deal with these complex decision making problems, and Artificial Intelligence tools play a core role in the intelligent decision making technology. In recent years, intelligent decision support systems based on Computational Intelligence have attracted the attention of both academic, researchers and practitioners in a wide range of disparate areas from computing science, engineering, operations research, economics and also management. Therefore, intelligent decision support systems and consensus models are of great importance to deal with complex decision environments, and involve the design of mathematical models for modeling decision problems, the use of different Information Technologies (such as the Web and social networks) and Artificial Intelligence tools (such as Computational Intelligence tools). On the other hand, the development of formal mathematical models to support experts in making decisions is of great importance to assure the validity of the actions derived from a decision outcome. This is of special relevance in decision contexts where the information on the problem at hand is not amenable to be modelled in a quantitative and precise way. Another issue to be addressed is that of inconsistency of information and the dynamic nature of the decision making process itself. This type of decision-making is now being described as decision-making under uncertainty in inconsistent and dynamic environments. The objective of this special issue is to attract researchers with an interest in the research area described above. Specifically, we are interested in the contributions towards the development of mathematical models for modeling decision problems, as well as computational intelligence based approaches that are able to deal with complex decision information (such as uncertain and inconsistency information). Special attentions are to be paid - The applications of the intelligent decision approaches on various domains, and - The performance comparisons of various decision making procedures. Papers describing advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. Indicative, but not complete, lists of topics covered in this focus session include: - Fuzzy preference modeling in intelligent decision support systems - Intelligent negotiation systems - Intelligent decision making in complex and dynamic contexts - Fuzzy consensus and decision making in Web frameworks - Consistency issues in preference modeling - Intelligent decision making system for big data - Aggregation of fuzzy preferences - Missing preferences in the fuzzy decision making - Applications of the intelligent decision support systems as in supplier selection, ensemble classifiers, portfolio selection, resource allocation, social networks, web. - Comparison analysis regarding different intelligent decision making models - Consensus in group decision-making - Consensus measures - Consensus and fuzzy ontologies - Consensus software tools - Fuzzy decision in Web 2.0
