Call For Papers
Since 1929, The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) has been the leading source of theoretical and experimental research results in the broad interdisciplinary subject of sound.
The journal serves physical scientists, life scientists, engineers, psychologists, physiologists, architects, musicians, and speech communication specialists.
Subjects include:
Linear and nonlinear acoustics
Aeroacoustics
Underwater sound and acoustical oceanography
Ultrasonics and quantum acoustics
Architectural and structural acoustics and vibration
Speech, music, and noise
Psychology and physiology of hearing
Engineering acoustics, sound transducers, and measurements
Bioacoustics, animal bioacoustics, and bioresponse to vibration
All submissions for publication are subject to peer review to determine their suitability for publication. In addition to contributed manuscripts, the journal contains news items of interest to acoustical scientists, special topics, book reviews, references to contemporary papers in acoustics, and reviews of acoustical patents.

Special Issues
Special Issue on Mobile Underwater Sensor Networks and Acoustics: Advances and PracticesSubmission Date: 2026-05-01The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) and JASA Express Letters are calling for papers for a joint Special Issue on "Mobile Underwater Sensor Networks and Acoustics: Advances and Practices."
Networks of mobile underwater sensors possess outstanding advantages compared to individual counterparts. There has been extensive research on these networks and impressive results have been reported on various occasions. As a result, there are also increasingly more efforts for sea trials of mobile underwater sensor networks, which is especially important for both theoretical and technological development. This special issue aims to cover the latest innovations, research findings, and practical implementations related to mobile underwater sensor networks with acoustic components. Researchers, engineers, and industry professionals are especially encouraged to share their relevant insights and experiences gained from the sea trials or field experiments.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
Design and architecture of mobile underwater acoustic networks
Integration of underwater mobile networks with acoustic sensors
Detection, localization, and tracking algorithms and tests in underwater environments
Communication protocols for mobile underwater sensor networks
Distributed estimation and control technologies for mobile sensor networks
Applications in ocean dynamics observation, environmental monitoring, and target detection
Field tests of cooperative unmanned underwater vehicle swarms
Challenges and solutions in real-world deployments of mobile underwater sensor networks
Future trends and research directions in mobile acoustic sensing technologies
If you have any questions about your intended paper, please email the Guest Editors.
Submission Deadline
Deadline for manuscripts is May 1, 2026
Please note: Accepted papers will be published in the next available regular issue of the selected journal and identified as belonging to this Special Issue. After all papers from both journals have been published for the Special Issue, they will all be listed in a joint online collection on the JASA and JASA Express Letters websites.
