Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids is an academic journal published by Elsevier. (ISSN 0022-3093, impact factor 3.5).

Aims & Scope The Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids publishes review articles, research papers, and Letters to the Editor. The journal publishes articles on amorphous and glassy materials, including inorganic, organic, polymeric, hybrid, and metallic systems. Papers on partially glassy materials, such as glass-ceramics and glass-matrix composites, and papers involving the liquid state are also included in so far as the properties of the liquid are relevant for glass formation. Submissions on chemical, electronic, optical and mechanical properties of glasses, amorphous semiconductors and metals, sol-gel materials, the liquid state of these solids and the processes by which they are formed are particularly welcomed. In all cases, the papers must demonstrate both novelty and importance to the field by way of significant advances in understanding or application of non-crystalline materials. In the case of Letters to the Editor, a compelling case must also be made for expedited handling. The journal publishes topics including: glass, amorphous, non-crystalline, vitreous, glass-ceramic, glass-matrix composite, glass-forming liquid.

Special Issue on Honoring Professor Josef Zwanziger’s contributions to glass science and the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, in celebration of his 65th birthday Día de Entrega: 2026-06-30 Celebrating Professor Josef Zwanziger’s 65th Birthday, this special issue honors his outstanding contributions to the field of glass science, and to the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids as a past editor. Professor Zwanziger’s influential scientific contributions include: Materials Characterization: Pioneering studies on how chemical composition influences the optical and mechanical properties of glasses, using advanced structural characterization techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), diffraction, etc.​ Method Development and Applications: Innovating and applying experimental approaches tailored for disordered materials, with a focus on NMR, optical measurements, etc. Theoretical Advancements: Co-developing the Abinit software for modeling solid-state properties, including NMR chemical shifts, electric field gradients, etc. Guest editors: Dr. Randall Youngman Science & Technology Division, Corning Incorporated, Corning, New York, United States of America Dr. Ulrike Werner-Zwanziger Department of Chemistry, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Manuscript submission information: Manuscript submission open date: 07-Nov-2025 Manuscript submission deadline: 30-Jun-2026 You are invited to submit your manuscript at any time before the submission deadline.
