Call For Papers

RSS 2027 (Robotics: Science and Systems Conference) is an academic conference held in Athens, Greece on 2027-07-06. The paper submission deadline is 2026-12-04. Acceptance notifications are sent on 2027-04-30.

Robotics: Science and Systems, 2027 welcomes Science and Systems papers that report on novel scientific and systems contributions. As always, we solicit your best work. This year, we are introducing new elements to the review and publication process. With the goal to rebalance our publishing structure toward long-term scientific progress and insightful, reproducible methodologies, we are implementing several structural changes, detailed below. The Two-Stage Shepherding Process RSS 2027 replaces the traditional single-deadline submission and rebuttal process with a two-stage development cycle to encourage engaged research shaping. This revised structure aims to preserve human involvement and oversight, despite the expected use of LLMs. Additionally, incorporating multiple decision stages acts as a cascading filter, allowing the Program Committee to sustainably manage a potentially unprecedented volume of submissions. Stage 1 (Initial Submission): Authors submit a 6-page Extended Abstract consisting of up to 5 pages of content and 1 page of references. We expect this Stage 1 submission to be a semi-complete paper; while the problem statement, hypotheses, and methodology must be fully fleshed out, it is expected that experiments or empirical validations will be missing or preliminary. The core of the manuscript must lay out the proposed methods, detailing the insights to be gained (even in the event of negative results). Due to the strict content limit, the related work section should cite only literature directly tied to the paper’s central problem and novelty. Reviewers will evaluate citations based on direct relevance rather than comprehensiveness at this stage. Authors are expected to provide a complete, comprehensive related work section, alongside their finalized experiments, during the Stage 2 final submission. Any additional content beyond the 6-page paper (e.g., websites or appendices) will not be considered for review. Extended Abstract submissions must be submitted by December 4th, 2026. Shepherding & Metareview: Reviewers and Area Chairs (ACs) will evaluate the paper’s hypothesis and methodology. Papers that are invited to proceed to Stage 2 will receive a Metareview, which outlines the required clarifications, evaluations, and methodological extensions required for the final paper. Authors can respond to this feedback during the rebuttal period (February 5 – February 12). Based on the authors’ response, the ACs will revise the Metareview into a finalized Extension Charter, which will be sent to the authors on February 26. Stage 2 (Final Submission): Authors will have until April 16 to execute the Extension Charter and finalize the paper. Before final acceptance, the Program Committee will review the final submissions to ensure that the Charter was followed and that scientifically valuable insights were achieved. Submissions will not be rejected for yielding negative experimental results. Rigorously falsifying a hypothesis is considered a valuable scientific contribution, provided the authors extract meaningful insights from the outcome. Signed Reviews Reviewer and Chair names will be made public for papers that are accepted. We believe disclosing the identities of Program Committee members at this final stage will strengthen community bonds between authors and their respective reviewers and chairs. Furthermore, it gives committee members a chance to be acknowledged for their high-quality work and encourages the community to see reviewing as an essential activity for the progression of science and systems.
