Aims and Scope

Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience (CCPE) publishes high-quality, original research papers, and authoritative research review papers, in the overlapping fields of:

    Parallel and distributed computing;
    High-performance computing;
    Computational and data science;
    Artificial intelligence and machine learning;
    Big data applications, algorithms, and systems;
    Network science;
    Ontologies and semantics;
    Security and privacy;
    Cloud/edge/fog computing;
    Green computing; and
    Quantum computing.

Emphasis on novel research related to practice and experience in these areas should be an essential aspect of contributions, rather than addressing theoretical aspects. Submissions should involve or imply significant concurrency and/or computational issues. Within these broad areas, the scope of CCPE includes the design, implementation, and optimization of compute and data-intensive applications for parallel and distributed systems. This includes the development of novel concurrent algorithms and applications, their parallel performance analysis and modelling, and new programming or modelling languages and relevant methodologies for composing them. Areas relevant to compute and data-intensive applications include, but are not limited to, large-scale computational science, artificial intelligence, and the processing of voluminous datasets from satellites, scientific experiments, sensor networks, medical instruments, and other sources. Techniques for resource management in the context of parallel and distributed systems, and energy-aware computing are also topics of interest.

Special Issues
Special Issue on the Thirteenth International Symposium on Computing and Networking (CANDAR 2025)
Día de Entrega: 2026-04-20

The past years have seen a flurry of activity in distributed computing and its related fields. Indeed, developments in computer communications and networks enabled the deployment of exciting new areas, including the internet of things, vehicular networks, collaborative big data analysis, and so on. The design and implementation of energy efficient future generation communication and networking technologies fostered the development of mobile, pervasive, and large-scale computing technologies. The recent growth of high speed wired/wireless access and LANs, functional wireless terminals such as smart phones and tablets, and cost-effective sensor/tag devices increasingly stimulate the emergence of user-centric network services collecting and exploiting user-provided data. Likewise, General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Unit (GPGPU) has superseded high-performance CPU in several important tasks, including computer graphics, physics calculations, encryption/decryption, and scientific computations. Indeed, GPGPUs are seen as a natural alternative to fulfill the computing needs for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications. Recent developments have shown intensive research activity in these fields. Novel parallel and distributed computational models reflected on the advances in new computational devices and environments such as optical interconnects, programmable logic arrays, networks of workstations, radio communications, mobile computing, DNA computing, quantum computing, sensor networks, etc. It is very encouraging to note that the advent of these new models has led to significant advances in the resolution of various difficult problems of practical interest. The International Symposium on Computing and Networking (CANDAR 2025), on its thirteenth edition, aims to serve as a forum for exchanging the latest findings and experiences ranging from theoretical research to practical system development in all aspects of computing and networking. The symposium is meant to bring together researchers and practitioners to share their views in an open and mutually beneficial exchange of ideas among the participants. This Special Issue brings selected papers presented at the CANDAR2025 Symposium and its workshops. CANDAR aims to serve as a forum for exchanging the latest findings and experiences ranging from theoretical research to practical system development in all aspects of computing and networking including parallel and distributed systems, algorithms, architectures, and applications. In addition to technical sessions consisting of contributed papers, the symposium will include invited presentations, poster sessions, tutorials, and workshops. We believe that participants will get new ideas and insight of computing and networking. The symposium consists of five main tracks organized as follows: Please note: The leading guest editor of the Special Issue, Dr. Jacir L. Bordim, is one of the organizers of the CANDAR 2025. Selected papers, presented at the CANDAR 2025, that obtained height scores will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers to the Special Issue. Papers submitted to the Special Issue will be required to have at least 60% of new material/difference from the conference paper (and any other overlap with other published papers). Special Issue on XXVI Brazilian Symposium on High Performance Computational Systems (SSCAD 2025)
Día de Entrega: 2026-05-31

This special issue will be based on extended versions of the best papers selected from the XXVI Brazilian Symposium on High Performance Computational Systems (SSCAD, former WSCAD), Bonito, MS, Brazil, October 28-31, 2025. The SSCAD symposium has presented important research in computer architecture, high performance computing, and distributed systems, since the beginning of the 2000s. It is a traditional event of the Brazilian Computer Society and the best papers from several previous years’ editions were already published on CCPE. The scope of the current special issue is broad and representative of the multidisciplinary nature of High-Performance Computing and Computer Architecture research domains, including methodological, technology, application, and system papers. The topics covered include architecture issues, compiler optimization, performance evaluation, parallel algorithms, energy efficiency, and applications. Please submit your paper to Research Exchange as “SSCAD2025 Special Issue”. Submissions should be prepared for publication according to the journal submission guidelines. It is expected that the submissions address the topic of the conference and contain at least 50% new content regarding any previously published paper. Authors are encouraged to submit high-quality, original work that has neither appeared in, nor is under consideration by, other journals. For more details on the conference, please visit https://sscad2025.ufms.br/ Topics for this call for papers include but are not restricted to: Computer Architecture Compiler Optimization Performance Evaluation Parallel Algorithms Energy Efficiency Applications Guest Editors: Dr. Liana D.
