on the subject Stochastics and Algorithmics in NETWORKS

The research project NETWORKS is looking for 14 international PhD students in mathematics and computer science. Are you interested in the stochastics and algorithmics behind network problems? Job description

The NETWORKS project is a collaboration of world-leading researchers from four institutions in The Netherlands: TU Eindhoven, University of Amsterdam, Leiden University and the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI). Research in NETWORKS focuses on stochastics and algorithmics for network problems. NETWORKS offers a highly stimulating research environment and an extensive training program for PhD students.

Recently NETWORKS was awarded a COFUND grant the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, funded by the European Commission. The grant allows NETWORKS to expand its activities by opening positions for an additional 14 PhD students. As a NETWORKS-COFUND PhD student you can define your own PhD project in one of the research areas mentioned above, in collaboration with your NETWORKS supervisors.

Requirements

Candidates are required to have a Master’s degree in mathematics (in particular stochastics with affinity for computer science), or computer science (in particular algorithms with affinity for mathematics). Preferable qualifications for candidates include proven research talent, an excellent command of English, and good academic writing and presentation skills. At the starting date of your employment as a PhD student in the NETWORKS COFUND program, you should be in possession of a Master’s degree.

Terms and conditions PhD Student

2 of 14* PhD students will be employed at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam. Their terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen"). The initial labour agreement will be for a period of 18 months. After a positive evaluation, the agreement will be extended by 30 months. The gross monthly salary, for a PhD student on a full time basis, is €2,407 during the first year and increases to €3,085 over the four year period.

Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.33%. CWI offers attractive working conditions, including flexible scheduling and help with housing for expat employees.

* The other 12 PhD students will be employed at one of the collaborated universities with terms of employment in accordance with Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.
