Special Issue on Clay-Based Materials for Emerging Applications: Multifunctional Advances across Energy, Manufacturing, Biomedical, and Environmental Fields 투고 마감일: 2026-12-31 A paradigm shift is reshaping clay science, moving far beyond traditional applications. Clay minerals are now emerging as sophisticated, multi-functional materials enabling next-generation technologies. This Special Issue, "Next-Gen Clay Materials," aims to capture this exciting transformation. We seek pioneering contributions that showcase the innovative use of clays in areas such as advanced energy storage, smart manufacturing, regenerative medicine, and high-performance environmental solutions. We invite researchers to submit their most impactful and forward-looking work to this landmark collection, helping to define the future trajectory of our field. Join us in highlighting the extraordinary potential of these advanced materials. Guest editors: Associate Professor Guanzheng Zhuang Guangdong University of Technology, School of Environmental Science and Engineering Professor Wenbo Wang Inner Mongolia University, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Assistant Professor Liva Dzene University of Upper Alsace, Institute of Material Science of Mulhouse Assistant Professor Karolina Rybka Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geological Sciences Special issue information: The field of clay science is currently witnessing a transformative era, shifting from traditional industrial uses toward high-tech, high-value applications. Owing to their unique physicochemical properties—such as high aspect ratio, tunable surface chemistry, cation exchange capacity, and biocompatibility—clay minerals are evolving into sophisticated building blocks for nanotechnology. No longer viewed merely as passive fillers or ceramic precursors, clays are now engineered as active, functional components in complex systems. This Special Issue, “Clay-Based Materials for Emerging Applications: Multifunctional Advances across Energy, Manufacturing, Biomedical, and Environmental Fields”, seeks to capture this paradigm shift. It aims to bridge the gap between fundamental clay mineralogy and advanced engineering applications, highlighting how nanostructural manipulation leads to breakthrough performance in next-generation technologies. We invite researchers to submit original research papers, comprehensive reviews, and short communications. We are particularly interested in studies that elucidate structure-property relationships, proposing novel mechanisms for how clay minerals interact within hybrid systems to provide superior mechanical, electrical, biological, or catalytic performance. Potential topics include but are not limited to advanced energy solutions (e.g., clay-based nanocomposites for solid-state electrolytes, separators, and electrodes in Li-ion/Na-ion batteries and supercapacitors; functional clays for hydrogen storage and fuel cell membranes; photocatalytic and electrocatalytic applications for energy conversion), smart manufacturing and functional composites (e.g., rheology modifiers for 3D printing and additive manufacturing of ceramics and polymers; stimuli-responsive clay hybrids (smart materials) for sensors, actuators, and flexible electronics; high-performance barrier coatings, fire retardants, and self-healing anticorrosive materials), biomedical and healthcare innovations (e.g., halloysite, montmorillonite, and other nanoclays as vectors for targeted drug and gene delivery; clay-polymer scaffolds for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine; antibacterial, antiviral, and hemostatic clay-based formulations), next-generation environmental remediation: adsorption and catalytic degradation of emerging contaminants; carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) using amine-functionalized clays; green synthesis and circular economy approaches involving clay minerals). This Special Issue welcomes contributions that push the boundaries of traditional clay science. We encourage works that not only report improved performance but also offer deep insights into the mechanisms driving these enhancements. Join us in defining the future trajectory of clay-based advanced materials. Manuscript submission information: Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts at any time before the submission deadline 31 December 2026.
