Dyes and Pigments is an academic journal published by Elsevier. (ISSN 0143-7208, impact factor 3.9).

Aims & Scope Dyes and Pigments is an international journal on the dyes, pigments and their intermediates. It publishes papers on all aspects of the scientific and technical of the chemistry and physics of dyes, pigments and their intermediates. Dyes and Pigments aims to interest a wide variety of workers in a range of disciplines whose work involves dyes, pigments and their intermediates, and provides a platform for investigators with common interests but diverse fields of activity such as cosmetics, reprographics, dye and pigment synthesis and structure, sensors, medical research, polymers, renewable energy (solar cells), etc. Submissions on the properties of the coloring matters are particularly welcomed. The Journal publishes topics including: Synthesis and characterization of dyes, pigments and intermediate. Physical or chemical properties of dyes, pigments and intermediate, e.g. spectroscopic, surface, solution and solid-state characteristics. Physical aspects of dyes, pigments and intermediate preparation, e.g. precipitation, nucleation and growth, crystal formation, liquid crystalline characteristics, their photochemical, ecological or biological properties and the relationship between color and chemical constitution. Deal with the more fundamental aspects of colorant application and of the interactions of colorants with substrates or media. The Journal does not accept submissions on: Dye degradation by catalysts or photocatalysts including the evaluation of new catalysts using dye degradation as an example, dye removal, or dye wastewater remediation Inorganic colorants, inorganic pigments, inorganic sensors in general and particularly those in the areas of inorganic ‘cool’ / ‘reflective’ pigments, inorganic luminophores / phosphors and inorganic pigments / glazes for ceramics. Submissions which predominantly report incremental advances to the subject field will not normally be considered.

Special Issue on occasion of the 7th International Symposium on Aggregation-Induced Emission Submission Date: 2026-12-31 Aggregation-induced emission has transformed the design of luminescent dyes and pigments by turning molecular aggregation from a quenching pathway into a powerful strategy for enhanced solid-state emission. This collection, organized on the occasion of AIE7, the 7th International Symposium on Aggregation-Induced Emission, will highlight recent advances in AIE-active dyes, fluorophores, and functional colorants, covering molecular design, photophysics, aggregation mechanisms, polymeric and supramolecular systems, and their application in sensing, bioimaging, optoelectronics, security, and energy storage and production. Contributions from symposium participants and the wider AIE community are welcome. Since its conceptualization, AIE has grown into a broad research field spanning organic and polymer chemistry, photophysics, supramolecular science, materials engineering, biology, optoelectronics, and emerging aggregate science. This Special Issue is organized on the occasion of AIE7, the 7th International Symposium on Aggregation-Induced Emission, to be held in Pisa, Italy, on 26–28 August 2026, and welcomes contributions from symposium participants as well as from the wider scientific community. The issue aims to collect high-quality original research articles and authoritative reviews addressing the design, synthesis, characterization, processing, and application of AIE-active dyes, pigments, fluorophores, and related functional emissive materials. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: molecular and polymeric AIE luminogens; new synthetic strategies for emissive dyes and colorants; structure–property relationships; photophysical mechanisms in solution, aggregates, thin films, crystals, nanoparticles, and solid matrices; restriction of intramolecular motion and other excited-state processes; supramolecular assemblies, soft matter, hybrid organic–inorganic systems, and nanostructured emitters; stimuli-responsive and mechano-, thermo-, photo-, electro-, vapochromic, and chemo-responsive materials; emissive polymers, coatings, inks, and pigments; processing of AIE materials into films, fibers, patterned surfaces, and devices; theoretical and computational approaches to aggregate-state emission; and advanced spectroscopic or microscopic methods for understanding emissive aggregates. The Special Issue will also cover application-oriented studies where AIE-active materials provide clear advantages in terms of brightness, stability, processability, responsiveness, or solid-state performance. Relevant areas include sensing and biosensing, bioimaging, theranostics and biomedical materials, security inks and anti-counterfeiting, optical probes, optoelectronic and photonic devices, OLEDs and light-emitting systems, waveguides, lasers, energy-related materials, solar energy harvesting, smart coatings, and sustainable or low-toxicity colorant technologies. Submissions should clearly emphasize the role of aggregation, condensed-phase organization, or solid-state structure in determining the optical properties and function of the reported materials. Manuscripts combining fundamental insight with materials innovation and application potential are particularly encouraged.
