Call For Papers

PowerTech 2027 (IEEE PowerTech) is an academic conference held in Bruges, Belgium on 2027-09-05. The paper submission deadline is 2027-02-28. Acceptance notifications are sent on 2027-04-23.

On behalf of the International Steering Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, we cordially invite you to attend the 17th IEEE PowerTech 2027, to be held in Bruges, Belgium, from September 5 to 9, 2027. The conference is co-sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and KU Leuven. IEEE PowerTech is the flagship IEEE PES conference in Europe and provides a premier forum for researchers, engineers, industry professionals, system operators, policymakers, and other stakeholders in electric power and energy engineering. The conference offers a unique opportunity to exchange scientific and technical knowledge, present recent research results, discuss emerging challenges, and strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and public institutions. The energy transition is reshaping power systems worldwide. Increasing shares of renewable generation, electrification of transport and heating, decentralised resources, digitalisation, power electronics, sector coupling, and new operational paradigms are transforming the way power systems are planned, operated, controlled, and protected. At the same time, affordability, reliability, resilience, cyber-physical security, and social acceptance remain essential requirements for future energy systems. IEEE PowerTech 2027 will provide a platform to address these challenges and opportunities by bringing together innovative research, technological developments, industrial experience, demonstrations, and policy perspectives. SCOPE & TOPICS Authors are invited to submit original contributions related to power and energy systems, including but not limited to the following topics. 1. Resilient Energy Systems Planning and operation of secure and resilient power systems Energy economics and policy International coordination of energy systems 2. Control of Modern Power Systems Grid-following and grid-forming control strategies Multiterminal HVDC, hybrid AC/DC grids, MVDC, LVDC systems and FACTS Energy management in distribution systems: smart grids Forecasting, detecting and managing congestion 3. Technologies for the Energy Transition Battery energy storage systems and Power-to-X Solid-state transformers, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure Digital technology for protection, measurements and applications Renewable energy technology Power electronic converters for grid applications 4. Digitalisation of Future Power Systems Artificial intelligence and data analytics Digital twins System monitoring and identification End-user engagement in power system operations Critical grid infrastructure 5. Demonstration and Validation of Research: Research in Action Control and power hardware-in-the-loop Hardware prototyping Test procedures
