Special Issues

Special Issue on Intelligent and Generative Multimedia Computing -- Outstanding Papers of ChinaMM2026 截稿日期: 2026-09-30 The China Multimedia (ChinaMM) is a leading academic event in China's multimedia sector, recognized for its significant impact and scholarly contributions. Over nine successful editions, it has attracted over 11,000 esteemed scholars, industry leaders, and corporate representatives worldwide, all committed to advancing the multimedia industry in China and internationally. Since the Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (JVCI) is a cornerstone for high-quality research in visual communication, image processing, and multimedia technologies, China Multimedia has annually recommended outstanding papers to JVCI since 2020, many of which have been published following a rigorous review process. To deepen cooperation and enhance JVCI's influence on ChinaMM, and stimulate further multimedia innovation, we plan to apply a special issue titled “Intelligent and Generative Multimedia Computing" that will coincide with China Multimedia 2026 (ChinaMM 2026, https://chinamm.csig.org.cn/2026 ). This special issue aims to collect 15 papers, with each submission undergoing two rounds of review. Authors whose papers pass the first round will be required to present their work at the main conference of ChinaMM 2026. Acceptance will be determined in the second round of review based on the quality of their paper revisions and presentations with a formal review process of JVCI. Note that we encourage all participants to submit papers through China Multimedia, and about 3 of 15 papers will be retained for submission in an open way if necessary. The field of multimedia is undergoing a transformative shift, driven by the rapid evolution of generative artificial intelligence, large-scale multi-modal models, and edge intelligence. These advancements are redefining how multimedia content is created, transmitted, and understood, with profound impacts across domains such as immersive media, autonomous systems, digital healthcare, and intelligent social platforms. Despite these breakthroughs, critical challenges remain. How can we achieve ultra-low-latency and reliable communication for emerging applications like immersive telepresence and real-time AI services? How can we effectively model, fuse, and reason over heterogeneous, incomplete, and noisy multi-modal data? Furthermore, as generative models become increasingly powerful, how can we ensure the authenticity, creativity, controllability, and trustworthiness of generated multimedia content? These questions underscore the complexities and opportunities shaping the future of multimedia research. This special issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research that addresses these pressing challenges. We invite contributions that present novel methodologies, theoretical insights, and practical applications across the full spectrum of multimedia analysis, communication, and generation. We particularly welcome studies that explore the synergy between emerging AI paradigms and multimedia systems, paving the way for more efficient, intelligent, and responsible multimedia technologies.
