Impact Factor:

Call For Papers
Machine Vision and Applications publishes high-quality technical contributions in machine vision research and development. Specifically, the editors encourage submittals in all applications and engineering aspects of image-related computing. In particular, original contributions dealing with scientific, commercial, industrial, military, and biomedical applications of machine vision, are all within the scope of the journal.

Particular emphasis is placed on engineering and technology aspects of image processing and computer vision.

The following aspects of machine vision applications are of interest: algorithms, architectures, VLSI implementations, AI techniques and expert systems for machine vision, front-end sensing, multidimensional and multisensor machine vision, real-time techniques, image databases, virtual reality and visualization. Papers must include a significant experimental validation component.

Special Issue on Human Abnormal Behavioural Analysis
Submission Date: 2017-12-06

Security and health-monitoring systems, among others, can largely benefit from detecting unusual and abnormal activities or feelings demonstrated by human beings, whose applications significantly contribute to the timely detection and prevention of crimes and diseases, respectively. From a psychological perspective, observing the foregoing types of phenomena relies on recognizing whether or not a gesture taken by a subject is considered to be “normal” or not. In the former settings, deciding if the reaction is actual or fake is followed by detecting the probability of a wrongdoing taking place according to the level of feeling risky or insecure, which appears in the form of micro-expressions, and in the latter, the pain may result in a certain category of expressions which could be considered as basis to hinder the occurrence of sudden physical failures, thereby avoiding possible serious damages to one’s health. This special issue concentrates on novel vision-based approaches for doing so, where the considered subjects cover a wider area encompassing indirectly related topics assisting the development on the foregoing matter as well, which mainly belong to broader categories such as computer vision and machine learning, benefiting from others being partially related to the issue in the aforementioned multidisciplinary context. The above topics fall, mainly, under the categories related to computer vision and machine learning, where the theoretical advancements and practical developments usually benefit from the contributions brought by other areas of research in the relevant domains of science and technology, which is due to the multidisciplinary nature of the task. We solicit submissions on the following topics: • Micro Expression recognition for abnormal behavior analysis • Abnormal activity recognition • Abnormal gesture recognition • Hidden emotion recognition • 2D and 3D biometric recognition for abnormal behavior analysis • Vision-based multi-modal approaches for abnormal behavior analysis • Emotion recognition in crowd • Fake expression recognition • Early recognition for abnormal behavior analysis in surveillance visual systems • Outlier detection in e-health visual systems
