Call For Papers
Aims

Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050) is an international and cross-disciplinary scholarly, open access journal of environmental, cultural, economic and social sustainability of human beings, which provides an advanced forum for studies related to sustainability and sustainable development. It publishes reviews, regular research papers, communications and short notes, and there is no restriction on the length of the papers.

Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical research relating to natural sciences, social sciences and humanities in as much detail as possible in order to promote scientific predictions and impact assessments of global change and development. Full experimental and methodical details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced.

There are, in addition, unique features of this journal:

manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas will be particularly welcomed
electronic files or software regarding the full details of the calculation and experimental procedure, if unable to be published in a normal way, can be deposited as supplementary material
we also accept manuscripts communicating to a broader audience with regard to research projects financed with public funds

Special Issues
Special Issue on Sustainable Electric Power Systems Research
Submission Date: 2017-09-30

Special Issue Information Dear Colleagues, Renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaic and wind power system, are being introduced into power systems. The systems do not emit CO2 for generation and system costs have been going down rapidly in recent years. Generated power depends on weather conditions, such as solar insolation and wind speed. The fluctuated generated power influences power systems; the voltage and frequency of power system can be changed suddenly; therefore, the power quality in power systems is strongly deteriorated. The control strategies and operation methods for power systems should be optimized in power systems with a high penetration of renewable systems. Moreover, high-power switching devices are now being developed, which can provide high-power electronic equipment for power systems. The power quality will increase with the use of power converters and inverters. This is another hot research topic in power engineer communities. This Special Issue of Sustainability will present the novel challenges for power system analysis, control, and optimization, including renewable energy and distributed generators in power systems. Prof. Dr. Tomonobu Senjyu Guest Editor Manuscript Submission Information Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI. Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions. Keywords Renewable energy Photovoltaic systems Wind energy conversion systems Power system analysis, control, and optimization Distribution systems Voltage and frequency control in power systems Reliability for power supply Demand side management and demand response High voltage direct current (HVDC) systems Remote-area power systems Distributed generators

Special Issue on Modern Statistical Techniques and Sustainability Studies
Submission Date: 2017-10-20

Special Issue Information Dear Colleagues, By comparing with first-generation statistical techniques (e.g., linear regression, ANOVA, MANOVA), second-generation techniques can provide a more rigorous analysis by assessing the structural model and the measurement model at the same time. With the proliferation of second-generation statistical techniques in nutrition, technology, energy, economics, sustainable cities, management, consumption and other sustainability disciplines, it is time to have a a dearth of understanding regarding the role that second-generation statistical techniques can play toward achiving social and environmental sustainability studies. This Special Issue will address wide-ranging topics on modern statistical techniques and sustainability studies, espeically the original methodological contributions in modern statistical techniques with application in areas and disciplines related to management, social sciences, chemometrics, sensory analysis, industry, tourism and life sciences including genomics. It is hoped that the broad scope of this Special Issue will encourage submissions from across several disciplines. Dr. Ivan K. W. Special Issue on Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) for Sustainability
Submission Date: 2018-03-15

Special Issue Information Dear Colleagues, We invite papers from a broad range of topics connected to Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) for Sustainability to this Special Issue. ICT through digitalization is affecting all parts of society and changes the preconditions for, and opportunities of, sustainability. We are in an era of both digitization and digitalization, with the first focusing on the technical development and the latter on the use of this development. This Special Issue is covering both these changes, and their relation to mainly environmental and social sustainability. Received papers are expected to include (but are not limited to) the following examples that all ought to discuss ICT and sustainability implications: ICT in a transforming society, changing practices and lifestyles, smart technologies and the environment, ICT applications for decision support in organizations, assessing and reducing the direct environmental impact of ICT, and sustainability assessments of ICT-based solutions. We are foreseeing contributions covering for example topics related to energy, cities, transport and food and we highly encourage interdisciplinary work.
